Four years have passed since the debut of the third generation Peugeot 308 family. Now it’s time for the traditional mid-life update. And the main thing that the restyling brought is a different face that better matches the new corporate style of the Peugeot brand.
The large fangs of the running lights are a thing of the past. Now the DRLs are triple stripes that resemble “claw marks” and are made in the same style as the frameless radiator grille. The headlights have moved lower and are skillfully disguised as air intakes in the new bumper. However, there are also real air ducts that lead inside the wheel arches. For the first time on Peugeot cars, the brand emblem on the nose is equipped with a backlight, and a camouflaged cruise control radar is installed right behind it.
The changes at the rear are much more modest. Triple “claw marks” in the taillights are now included in all versions without exception (previously this was a sign of expensive options), and the chrome inserts have disappeared from the bumper. The range of body colors has been supplemented by Lagoa blue, and new wheel designs are available with a diameter of 17 or 18 inches.
Compared to the exterior, the interior update turned out to be quite light. The signature architecture of the i-Cockpit front panel with a raised instrument display and a 10-inch media system screen integrated into the center console has been preserved. But a redesigned interface with 3D graphics has appeared, although by default it is only included in the richest GT version. It can also boast of Alcantara trim, customizable contour lighting, an air quality control system and a premium Focal audio system ( 690 watts, 10 speakers, 12-channel amplification). Hybrid versions of the station wagon acquired a two-level trunk floor, and the volume of the compartment itself has increased from 548 to 598 liters, although fuel modifications remain unattainable (they have 608 liters).
The updated Peugeot 308 has acquired improved electrical equipment. For example, the plug-in hybrid based on a 1.6 turbo engine (150 hp) replaced the eight-speed automatic with a seven-speed preselective robot, and the electric motor power was increased from 110 to 125 hp. As a result, the peak power of the system increased from 180 to 195 hp. The capacity of the traction battery was increased from 12.4 to 17.2 kWh, which provided an additional 20 km of electric range (now 85 km). A more powerful version of the hybrid with 225 hp was excluded from the range last year. The Peugeot E-308 electric car is now equipped with a 55.4 kWh battery (previously 51 kWh) and a more powerful electric motor on the front axle (260 Nm versus 250 Nm previously), although its power has not changed (156 hp). As a result, recuperation has been enhanced, and the cruising range has increased from 408 to 450 km.
The regular hybrid with a 1.2 Puretech turbo three (145 hp) and an electric motor built into a six-speed preselective “robot” has not changed. Finally, a pleasant surprise for the most economical and prudent buyers was the retention of the 1.5 turbodiesel (130 hp) in the range, which is aggregated with a classic eight-speed “automatic”. The Peugeot 308 has not had manual gearboxes since 2024.
The European sales of the updated Peugeot 308 family are scheduled to begin next autumn, with prices to be announced at that time. Peugeot is particularly proud that the 308 family is produced at the historic Mulhouse plant in eastern France: there are no plans to relocate production yet.
