Philips is considering switching to QD- OLED panels for its TVs . If this happens, then Philips will become the third brand in the world to use QD-OLED technology, after Samsung and Sony .
QD-OLED is a TV panel technology developed by Samsung to combine the record-breaking contrast ratio of OLED with the greater color brightness of quantum dots. The first TVs with such matrices – Samsung S95B and Sony A95K received rave reviews from experts.
Philips parent company TP Vision director of product strategy and planning Danny Tack confirmed the news in an interview with HDTV Test: “We are looking into Samsung ‘s quantum dot OLEDs . We also have prototype TVs based on such matrices at the TP Vision innovation center in Ghent, and we compare them with each other, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of such a solution . ” He added that the decision on serial production of Philips TVs on QD-OLED matrices will be made later. The Philips brand plans to introduce its 2023 TV lineup in February.
Philips already sells the 34M2C8600 34-inch curved QD-OLED gaming monitor in the EVNIA series, so this will not be completely uncharted territory for the company.
